Abstract

The article, using the example of historical research based on the experience of the comparative historical method of linguistics, reveals the opinion of the writer Tugelbai Sydykbekov about the etymology of such ethnonyms as alakchyn and budun, found in the epic “Manas”. The etymology and semantic meanings of ethnonyms were determined using comparative historical and diachronic research methods, using the example of the common use of some consonants in Turkic languages, and not only by comparing some ethnonyms found in the epic with the same dictionary of ethnonyms. The examples analyzed in the article are compared with ethnonyms in ancient Turkic written monuments, the dictionary of Mahmud Kashgari “Divani lugat it Turk”.
