Annotation
The article presents a review of a number of literature sources devoted to the problem of testing students' knowledge in physics and their ability to apply them in practice. It is shown how the meaning, goals, functions, types, forms, levels, ways, results and norms of assessing students' knowledge are interpreted in the sources under consideration, and the justification of the need to take into account the age characteristics of students when testing their knowledge of physics and the ability to apply this knowledge. Also, the article contains materials on the peculiarities of the use of various forms of testing students' knowledge in physics and their ability to apply this knowledge, on the expediency of choosing and timing the implementation of this or that type, this or that form of testing knowledge and skills during the academic year, some examples of tasks widely used in the practice of teaching physics at school.
