Abstract

Barbara Oakley, Ph.D. Brain stem cell researcher and author of Think Like a Mathematician: Barbara Oakley, PhD, brain stem cell researcher and author of Think Like a Mathematician: How to Solve Problems Faster and More Efficiently emphasizes: “Mathematics saves us from “magical thinking” - we strive to delve into the essence of things and do not rely on chance and higher powers.”

   An interesting study was published in the journal Nature Neuroscience in 2014. First of all, it was devoted to the study of the role of the hippocampus (an area in the brain) in the development of cognitive activity in children. But his indirect conclusions are as follows:

  • if you want your child to have no problems with mathematics at school, train memory at an early age;
  • Solving mathematical problems develops memory.
