Developing basic concepts of «Number and Counting» in mathematics for senior preschool children using elements of Kyrgyz ethnocultural traditions.

The formation of elementary mathematical concepts in preschool education is viewed as the foundation for children's subsequent acquisition of mathematical knowledge. It was noted that the Law “On Education” states that “...education is aimed at forming a harmonious system of universal human and national values...”. In accordance with this, the content of forming elementary mathematical concepts for older preschool children was first examined, followed by the content and goal of forming the same elementary mathematical concepts in combination with elements of Kyrgyz ethnocultural traditions. The “Number and Counting” section was reviewed most extensively.
The national and regional component provides for: Teaching counting in the Kyrgyz language from 1 to 10; sequential introduction to the formation of each number from 5 to 10; teaching the comparison of adjacent numbers within 10 based on specific sets (for example, multicolored alchiks [chükö/astragali]); teaching how to derive equality from inequality (and vice versa): by adding one alchik to the smaller number or subtracting one alchik from the larger number; equating numbers; teaching the counting out of alchiks from a large group based on a model or a given number (within 10), and so on; also included is the introduction of songs, riddles, counting rhymes, proverbs and sayings, catchphrases, games, tongue twisters, and fairy tales and other materials in the Kyrgyz language that mention numbers and other mathematical concepts.
