Extracurricular works on Mathematics are unseparated part of educational process in
teaching Mathematics. Extracurricular works on Mathematics should be started as early as possible
in order to wake some pupils’ consciousness and raise their interest in the given subject. The
purposes of extracurricular works are: to develop pupils’ interest in the subject, to accumulate skills
that complement and deepen the knowledge gained in the basic course.
Unfortunately, there is still no enough generalized experience of organizing extracurricular
work in Mathematics with younger pupils. Extracurricular works with younger pupils are not
organized, if they are, they are episodic. There are almost no textbooks on extracurricular works for
primary school teachers.
Considering the reasons mentioned above we have come to the conclusion to write this
article.
The article deals with the role, concept, types and peculiarities of extracurricular work on
Mathematics. A summary of extracurricular Math activities are also recommended in this article.
