This article is devoted to the study of the meaning and methods of teaching fiction in literary criticism of primary school. In accordance with the age characteristics of students, the principles of selecting fiction and effective methods of teaching them are considered. It is analyzed how the educational, aesthetic and linguistic meaning of texts affects the intellectual and emotional development of children. At the same time, the need to explain the content and artistic features of fiction texts in order to make a deep impression on students was emphasized. In the course work, such methods used in teaching fiction as analysis, dramatization, drawing and creative tasks are considered important for increasing students' interest. The selection of fiction texts and the use of appropriate methods of teaching them will help make literary reading lessons in elementary grades more effective.
