Abstract

                                                                 Abstract:

This article discusses the problem of developing students' imagination and critical thinking when teaching geometry to elementary school students. The fundamental concepts of geometry (point, line, segment, and ray) are introduced to students through storytelling and practical problem-solving.

If students can imagine these geometric concepts at a reasonable level, they will easily master more advanced topics. However, even in high school, some students struggle to visualize a ray, segment, or straight line. They may also have difficulty labeling them with letters and distinguishing a segment from a straight line.

To address this issue, it would be more effective to explain geometric concepts by highlighting their meaning and connections to real life, rather than relying solely on memorization. The goal of modern education is to help students develop critical thinking skills, practice problem-solving, and apply their knowledge in real-world situations. Math lessons, in particular, play a crucial role in fostering children's critical thinking. A deeper exploration of each topic, combined with opportunities for independent work, will encourage students to think critically while allowing them to grasp the essence of the subject.
